Every year I see the same post on Facebook. It’s New Year’s Day and one of my friends posts the following: Welcome to the annual cut. I deleted 50 people. Congratulations, you made it.

That made me laugh the first time I read it.

And then it made me think. Which decisions have I made that made my life better? Cleaner. How did I clear the decks and what made me more focused, a better person?

I asked myself who I really wanted to be. And then I got to work. Most of it was difficult. I changed my life, I changed my mind, and I started to think differently.

“Should I Stop Drinking?”

Yes, probably. I was dancing on the edge of becoming a raging alcoholic by the age of 21. I knew it. I could feel it. And I had an epiphany where I could see a glimpse of what the future would hold if I didn’t get my shit together. If you are asking yourself this question or any like it then yes. Give stopping a shot. Drinking doesn’t seem to be working.

As an alcoholic, you will violate your standards quicker than you can lower them. -Robin Williams
